Kay
Chief Executive Officer
Max Kay is the founder and CEO of KCI Computing and is the driving force behind KCI’s unique vision and innovative technical strategy.
Kay founded KCI in 1977, authoring the company’s flagship software product, CONTROL®, a dynamic planning, modeling, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, consolidation and reporting solution. In the years following, Kay focused on bringing CONTROL to market, nurturing his growing client base, and building the culture that is the very fabric of KCI today.
Kay molded a culture that is passionate about exceeding expectations set by customers for corporate performance management excellence, and delivering unsurpassed value in every client interaction. Today, he remains the chief software architect, steering product development, guiding many projects and actively working with customers and prospects alike to ensure CONTROL delivers financial transparency and anticipates market needs.
Kay’s hands-on approach, client-centric focus, and unyielding demand for innovation and excellence have resulted in a long list of satisfied clients and lasting relationships. KCI customers span a broad range of industries and include Procter & Gamble, Raytheon Systems Company, Guess Inc., Citizens Business Bank, CMP Media, and Delta Dental, to name a few.
Kay holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and English from the California Institute of Technology, along with a master’s degree in physics from the University of California at Berkeley and a master’s degree in finance from Stanford University.
Naida
Shaw
Vice President, Operations & Administration
As vice president of operations and administration at KCI Computing, Naida Shaw is responsible for the quality, growth and development of client services and day-to-day sales, marketing and finance operations. Shaw joined KCI in 1997 bringing many years of technology experience to the team. Prior to KCI, Shaw was vice president, Information Technology at Pentegra Group, a provider of retirement programs and services with responsibility for strategic technology initiatives; systems development; voice and data communication network management and operations; data center operations; computer training and help desk operations. Shaw graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo where she earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economics and education. She also holds a master’s degree in management from Columbia University.
Scott
Asplund
Director, Education & Client Support
Scott Asplund joined the KCI team in 2005 and is responsible for education and support. In this capacity, he helps customers get the greatest value from their CONTROL investment and plays an important role in building customer loyalty. His resume stacks 17 years of CPM experience spanning financial systems development and implementation, process development, project management, and financial modeling and analysis. Prior to joining KCI, he held the position of manager, financial reporting systems, at Broadcom and Mindspeed Technologies, where he was responsible for the company’s global Essbase and Hyperion Planning Systems. Prior to this, Asplund was with BAX Global where he implemented KCI’s CONTROL solution — reducing the company’s budgeting cycle by six months, streamlining reporting, and saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in training and administrative costs. Asplund graduated from Brigham Young University, Utah, with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and business management. He also holds a master’s degree in finance from California State University, Hayward.
Tom Hartman
Director of Sales
Tom Hartman brings more than 28 years of industry experience in his role as director of sales, where he oversees the company’s business development activities. Focused on accelerating KCI's growth, Hartman also plays an integral role in building company awareness and establishing its brand value proposition. Prior to joining KCI, Hartman spent six years as territory manager and senior budget specialist at Microsoft responsible for sales of Microsoft Forecaster and PerformancePoint Server. Hartman’s career and insights in the CPM arena began at Pillar Corporation and include implementation experience as well as Finance & Accounting roles at PYA/Monarch, a $3 billion food service and distribution subsidiary of Sara Lee Corporation, Riviana Foods and Fluor Daniel Engineers and Constructors. Hartman earned an MBA from College of William and Mary, a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, and has a Certification in Management Accounting (CMA).
Kai
Lu
Director, Professional Services
Kai Lu joined KCI in 1998 as an Application Consultant and moved into the group’s management position in 2003. Lu oversees all consulting engagements and is instrumental in shaping best practices and refining the CONTROL® offering functionally and technically. He brings a special combination of insight, analytical rigor, technology acumen and passion to each project and has experience in a broad range of business sectors including banking, consumer packaged goods, health care, leasing, logistics, media, real estate, industrial manufacturing, telecommunications, technology and transportation. He has fostered many CONTROL evangelists having delivered improved visibility and measurable results to numerous clients. Prior to joining KCI, Lu held various accounting and finance positions of increasing responsibilities at Circle International, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s of management science degree from Fudan University in China, and a master’s degree in accountancy. |
